The School
Scots College is a private (independent) boys' primary and secondary school located in the suburb of Strathmore Wellington, New Zealand. The College comprises both the primary and secondary institutions - the primary school section is typically referred to as the Preparatory School and has its own Head Teacher and staff.
Scots College has a proud history stretching back nearly 100 years of educating young men. Scots' core purpose is the development of the all-round man. Students at the College are provided with opportunities in many areas to develop their potential in the areas of academia, sport, culture, service and spirituality.
Admission
Scots College accepts International students from Year 1-6 (aged 5 to 10 years) if living in Wellington with a parent, Year 7 and 8 (aged 11 to 12 years) if living in the College boarding house, and Year 9 to 13 (aged 13 to 18 years).
The College prefers students to enter at Year 7- 9 (in the Middle School), although older students will also be considered (Senior School, Yrs 11-13).
All applicants must be able to demonstrate a minimum capability in spoken and written English to be enrolled. This will require an IELTS grade or equivalent appropriate to the student’s age being submitted before fi nal acceptance can occur.
Boarding Houses
Scots College offers five and seven day boarding in Gibb House. Seven day boarders have two exeat weekends each term. Homestays are arranged through the College for those students unable to travel home. Weekly boarders depart on Friday afternoon (or Saturday after sport) returning on Sunday evening or early Monday morning.
Full and five day boarders are cared for by the resident Housemaster, Assistant Housemaster, Matron and tutors. All the staff live on campus. A close knit family atmosphere is fostered in this extended family environment.
Gibb House is the Boarding Facility at Scots College. It is Wellington’s only boys’ boarding house. It provides boarding for 60 boys. There are single rooms for senior boys; all other rooms are twin share. The well-designed rooms are modern and comfortable with study facilities and online access in every room.
