The School

  • The college is built beside the Mound. This was used as the motte of a castle. No remains of the castle can be seen today. It is generally accepted that the Mound is actually of much more ancient construction and possibly a similar feature to Silbury Hill.
  • Marlborough is an academically selective school but we do not believe in selection upon academic criteria alone. The School's co-educational boarding nature offers wonderful opportunities to young people but also makes certain demands: readiness to live as a boarder within a tightknit community is key to prospects of success. The School also recognises the central value of Art, Drama, Music, Service and Sport and look to encourage enthusiasm for these fields. The School looks for pupils who are prepared to make the most of the opportunities on offer at Marlborough.
  • The Good Schools Guide (UK) described Marlborough as a "Famous, designer label, co-ed boarding school still riding high.

Boarding Houses

  • The greatest strengths of the school spring from the quality of the human relationships throughout the community and the sense of companionship that these engender. The full boarding environment encourages a fi rm sense of community and helps to develop friendships that will be sustained and be sustaining in life beyond the College.
  • The School's fifteen Houses provide an unrivalled system of pastoral care, which seeks to promote individual and academic confi dence. Marlburians come to appreciate the creative tension between independence and interdependence and they do so with dynamic effervescence and a palpable sense of fun.

IB Diploma Program

  • The philosophy of the IB emphasises high academic standards. At the heart of the IB Diploma lies the Learner Profi le. This sets out the key attributes which the programme seeks to develop. These mirror the College's ambition to develop fully the potential of all its pupils, and to instil a love of learning for its own sake.
  • Academic excellence is coupled with an emphasis on personal development. The IB supports the philosophy of a rounded education and the development of the whole person, rather than a narrow focus on the academic alone. To achieve this, students are encouraged to refl ect upon both their academic subjects and their personal development. Students are required to demonstrate initiative, independence and organisation.
